Muizzu pledges to restart construction of Hiya company flats

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC), has pledged to restart the projects to build flats for employees of state-owned companies under the Hiya housing scheme.

At a campaign event in Fuvahmulah City, Muizzu said he had heard numerous complaints after the government decided not to continue with the development of flats for employees of state-owned companies such as Public Service Media (PSM) and the Maldives National University (MNU). He said that the Hiya housing scheme began after promising to provide housing for many state employees but the current administration has cancelled many of the construction projects.

As such, Muizzu highlighted that institutions like MNU had already released the list of flat recipients, while also noting the concern expressed by many employees of PSM over the cancellation of the project. He outlined his plan to restart the projects under his presidency, allowing companies to resume constructing flats for their employees in Hulhumale', in accordance with the policies of the previous government.

Additionally, Muizzu discussed his intent to reform the existing practice of altering salary structures within companies for the purpose of political gains. He proposed a fair and unbiased policy to ensure equitable salary benefits for all individuals.

The Hiya housing scheme aimed to develop 62 residential towers in Hulhumale' with participation from numerous state-owned companies. However, only four companies successfully constructed and allocated the flats to their employees.
