Hassan Shiyan leaves the Democrats to rejoin MDP

Parliamentarian Hassan Shiyan has left The Democrats and re-joined the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

Shiyan was elected as a member of the Parliament of the Maldives for the Thoddoo Constituency on the MDP ticket. He chose to work with Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed and was one of the first of 13 parliamentarians to sign up for The Democrats.

The presidential candidate of MDP, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih received Shiyan's membership form. Shiyan is the second parliamentarian from The Democrats to rejoin MDP, the first being Parliamentarian Yasir Abdul Latheef who rejoined MDP alongside Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi Mohamed Athif.

Shiyan explained his decision to rejoin the MDP, citing the strong desire of numerous individuals in the Thoddoo Constituency. He stated that his change of heart was influenced by the sentiments expressed by both his constituency and the broader population of the country.
