EPA expresses concern on election campaign impact

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has expressed concern regarding the campaign activities conducted by some parties for the upcoming presidential election.

In a press release, EPA highlighted the adverse ecological and wildlife impacts of these campaign activites. As such, EPA stated that campaign banners placed on protected and aged trees on islands are causing damage, while discarded campaign materials like leaflets and posters are littering streets. In addition, the improper management of single-use plastic water bottles utilised during events is contributing to environmental challenges.

Furthermore, EPA has raised concern over the drilling and destruction of lagoons on islands for flag pole construction, which is harming vital coral reefs around the islands. These reefs play a crucial role in ensuring island safety. As a result, EPA strongly urges political parties and campaigners to refrain from engaging in such environmentally harmful activities.
