Faris pledges to protect country's Islamic legacy

Independent presidential candidate Faris Maumoon has said that he will work to protect and preserve the country's Islamic legacy.

In a special programme, Faris said the top priority in his manifesto is to preserve the legacy of Islam in the country and not give any opportunity for other religious thought. He said that in a changing world, the country should be protected from people with different views on Islam.

Additionally, Faris highlighted the importance of formulating religious policies to maintain the true faith of Islam. He said these policies should be in line with all other government policies and that scholars should be trained to protect the true faith of Islam and reach out to the people. As such, he said that scholarship opportunities should be provided to more religious scholars in the country.

Furthermore, Faris emphasised that freedom is not only by military attacks or conquest but can also be affected by the relationships people form with foreign parties for political purposes. As such, he pledged to work to ensure that the Maldives remains a 100% Muslim country.
