Gov't inaugurates website for farmers

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture has inaugurated a website containing crucial information for farmers, called Dhanduveriya.

Minister Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan inaugurated the website at a special function in Goidhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. The development of the website was a joint effort between the fisheries ministry and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Speaking at the function, Minister Hassan said the website will provide detailed information about agriculture including on various types of wheat, fruits and vegetables and crop diseases and how to deal with them. He noted that the website is incomplete and that efforts will be made to improve it, adding that a mobile application will also be developed with the help of FAO.

The main purpose of the website is to provide various information on agriculture. Through the website, farmers can learn about the common crops grown in the Maldives, how to grow them, the growing season and how to use pesticides. The website was also designed for convenient communication between the ministry and farmers. As such, the ministry will be available to answer inquiries through the website.
