Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the presidential candidate of the People's National Congress (PNC), has pledged to forgive fines for illegal parking.
Speaking at a campaign event in Funadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll, Muizzu highlighted that the current government had failed to provide adequate parking spaces and had initially vowed not to enforce fines for parking violations. He, however, pointed out that the public was already burdened with significant payments in the form of parking fines, characterising it as a strategy employed by the government to generate revenue.
Additionally, Muizzu noted that the Male' City Council had formulated plans to address the parking challenges, but the current government had hindered the implementation. As a result, Muizzu pledged to forgive all parking fines issued under the current government.
Furthermore, Muizzu expressed his intention to resolve the shortage of parking facilities in Male'. He outlined his plans to establish parking buildings and alternative parking zones and he vowed to put an end to what he referred to as the garage city concept. These initiatives are aimed at improving the parking situation for the citizens under his government.
