Only an independent candidate can stop corruption: Zameel

Independent presidential candidate Hassan Zameel has stated that only an independent candidate can effectively stop corruption in the Maldives.

Speaking on a special programme, Zameel explained his strategy for curbing corruption in the nation. He said that he chose to run as an independent as governments consisting of a coalition of parties are unable to investigate cases of corruption.

As such, Zameel emphasised that under his administration, investigations into corruption would not be compromised, unlike in coalition governments where such probes tend to stall when a coalition member is implicated. He stressed the importance of fighting corruption to ensure justice and pledged that if elected, he would see such cases through to their conclusion.

Furthermore, Zameel acknowledged the public's demand for justice in cases of murder and violence during the 2018 presidential election, expressing his intention to address these concerns that have remained unresolved leading up to the 2023 election.
