Tourist beach to be developed in Hulhumale'

The Ministry of Tourism has signed an agreement with Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) to develop a tourist beach in Hulhumale' Phase I. The agreement to establish a beach area catering to tourists accommodated in guesthouses was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Tourism Ministry Fathimath Nilfa and the Managing Director of HDC Ahmed Athif.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom emphasised the significance of the tourist beach in Hulhumale', underscoring its necessity. He highlighted that the collaborative efforts of the tourism ministry, HDC, and various industry stakeholders will be leveraged to contribute to the design and planning of the area.

Meanwhile, Athif remarked that the beach in Hulhumale' is currently frequented by numerous individuals from the Greater Male' Region. He also noted that businesses operating guesthouses and liveaboards in Hulhumale' have raised concerns about Hulhumale' not having a dedicated beach area for tourists.

Therefore, HDC stated that the tourist beach is being designed with accessibility for individuals with disabilities in mind. The development will encompass amenities such as benches, a lifeguard hut, restrooms, and designated seating zones. Additionally, the area will feature kiosks, changing rooms, lockers, and communal bathing facilities.
