Ilyas Labeeb, the presidential candidate of The Democrats, has pledged to amplify the number of international flights operating to Maafaru Airport as part of his strategy to stimulate tourism within Baa Atoll.
Addressing a gathering held in Kendhikulhudhoo, Ilyas highlighted the robust growth of the national economy. He underscored that the island boasts a pristine beach comparable to the top-notch resorts in the vicinity. He said the island has the capacity to elevate the island's tourism sector. He acknowledged the substantial hurdles that have hindered the introduction of local tourism to the island. He also made a commitment to augment international flights to Maafaru Airport under the governance of The Democrats to enable global visitors to access the island with greater ease.
Elaborating on the easy business policy outlined in the manifesto, Ilyas noted his government would extend financial support to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to venture into sectors such as guesthouses, boutique hotels, and dive centers on various islands. Reiterating his promise, Ilyas reaffirmed his intention to alleviate tax burdens on small businesses. He also emphasised his commitment to allocating 50% of the green tax to local councils, as part of his overarching agenda.
