Customs revenue increases by 15% in July

The Maldives Customs Service has revealed that its revenue increased by 15% in July.

Statistics show that Customs received USD23 million in July this year, which is a 15% increase compared to the same month last year. The value of imports also grew by 12% to USD305 million. India, Oman, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Malaysia were the biggest contributors to imports, according to Customs. As such, USD47 million in goods were imported from India, while USD43 million were imported from Oman, USD40 million from China, USD34 million from the UAE, and USD26 million from Malaysia. The largest categories of imports were fuel, machinery, mechanical and electrical appliances, and food items.

Additionally, USD8.9 million in goods were exported from the Maldives in July, which is a 70% increase compared to the same month last year. The Maldives exported the largest number of goods to Thailand, Germany, the United Kingdom (UK), India, and France. Around 35% of the goods were exported to Thailand while 21% were exported to the UK, 15% were exported to Germany, 6% to India, and 4% to France. Among the most exported items were various frozen and preserved fish products.

The statistics also show that 111 vessels arrived in the Maldives and 19,423 declarations were processed in July this year, which is an increase compared to the 93 vessel arrivals and 17,184 declarations in the same month last year.
