The main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has denied using state resources for its presidential campaign. Mariya Ahmed Didi, the spokesperson for the MDP candidate, made the remark in response to accusations that presidential candidates are forcing their employees to take part in their campaigns.
At a press conference, Mariya said that senior members of MDP are conducting the campaign without the use of contractors or employees. She also said that only the senior party members are involved in campaign activities, such as putting up flags and banners.
Additionally, Mariya responded to inquiries on whether President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will join the debates hosted by various media channels by saying that his top priority is to participate in activities that reach the people. She said that President Solih will join election-related programmes if he has time after completing his ongoing campaign trips across the country.
