Mohamed Nazim, the presidential candidate of the Maldives National Party (MNP), has opened a USD65 million fund to help the poor. He inaugurated the fund at an MNP function at Billabong High International School.
Speaking at the function, Nazim said that a large part of the state revenue of the country should go towards helping the poor and that the purpose of the fund is to provide help to those in need of financial assistance. He also announced that the fund is open for registration and that assistance will first be given to the most vulnerable and needy individuals and families. He added that a list of beneficiaries will be published in the Government Gazette after he assumes office, after which his administration would begin providing assistance.
Furthermore, Nazim spoke about the housing issue in the Greater Male' Region and said that his administration would assist in the construction of residential buildings in areas being reclaimed by the current government.
