Ilyas pledges to abolish taxes for small businesses

Ilyas Labeeb, the presidential candidate of The Democrats, has pledged to abolish Goods and Service Tax (GST) for businesses that earn less than USD520.

At a campaign event in Vaikaradhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Ilyas spoke on his development goals for the region. He also said that small businesses in the country face many obstacles such as the high expenditure on rent and utility services. He highlighted that businesses such as cafés and guesthouses have to pay bills totaling USD520-1,600.

As such, Ilyas said that his administration would abolish taxes for businesses earning less than USD520 and provide more opportunities to small businesses. He also emphasised other policies that would benefit small businesses.
