Qasim pledges to raise allowance of elderly to USD454

Qasim Ibrahim, the presidential candidate of the Jumhooree Party (JP), has pledged to raise the state allowance for individuals above 65 years of age to USD454.

Speaking on the PSM Manifesto programme, Sheikh Moosa Nizar Ibrahim, who worked on Qasim's manifesto, said that one of the areas that Qasim paid special attention to in formulating the manifesto was to increase the allowance given to the elderly and allow them to receive essential services. He added that the allowance should be increased to prevent the elderly from experiencing the impact of inflation.

Additionally, Nizar shared Qasim's policies on the fisheries sector, expressing concern that Maldivians are still not receiving adequate benefits from the country's ocean territory. He said that Qasim would extend the fishing area to 100 miles and provide 50 vessels specialised for the task.

The JP manifesto identifies policies under nine sections and describes how these policies will solve the challenges faced by the people. JP stated that the manifesto was formulated after extensive research.
