Independent presidential candidate Umar Naseer has pledged to relocate residents in small communities to any city they wish. He made the remark in a special programme aired by Dhivehi Raajjeyge Adu for presidential candidates.
Speaking on the programme, Umar responded to a question from a listener by saying that he will reclaim land in Giraavaru Falhu and Uthuru Thilafalhu and connect the two islands with a bridge. He said that it would solve the housing crisis in the region for the next 10 years. He also said he would provide the opportunity for residents of the 50 least populated islands to relocate to any city they wish.
Additionally, Umar said his administration will prioritise solving the drug epidemic and fostering a productive generation of young people. He also said that all drug traffickers will face punishment under his administration, regardless of their societal status. He outlined stringent measures such as implementing the death penalty for drug traffickers and the authorisation to shoot down vessels smuggling drugs into the country. He further said that drug addicts will be sent to rehabilitation facilities within 24 hours of apprehension.
Umar has reiterated that he is in favour of implementing the death penalty. He said that within three months of assuming office, he will allow the execution of all those who have been sentenced to death by the Supreme Court.
