Suspects arrested for plotting terrorist act abroad

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has arrested four suspects for allegedly plotting to commit a terrorist act abroad.

MPS stated that it received evidence that the suspects had plotted to commit a terrorist act in a neighbouring country in 2017. They had also allegedly transferred funds to a foreign terrorist organisation and provided assistance to commit a terrorist act. The evidence was provided by law enforcement agencies of the two nations.

MPS stated that officers have raided three locations based on the evidence and confiscated the digital devices of three individuals. The police service stated that the investigation is ongoing and that it is also assisting in the investigations of the two nations.
