Zameel pledges to establish USD1,300 minimum wage

Independent presidential candidate Hassan Zameel has pledged to establish a minimum wage of USD1,300-1,600.

In his manifesto, Zameel said he decided to run in the 2023 presidential election after concluding that a coalition of parties cannot act in the best interest of the country. The manifesto includes policies he would implement to fix the problems in the country, including increasing the minimum wage and raising the salaries of those working in dangerous environments.

Additionally, Zameel has pledged to focus on bringing justice to those who have disappeared or were murdered and to recover the state funds lost through the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) corruption scandal. He said that an administration run by a coalition of parties would not be able to recover the funds, as some of the senior government officials would be the beneficiaries of the embezzlement, and it would lead to the case being stalled due to the challenges in questioning them.

Furthermore, Zameel pledged to eliminate drug trafficking, deport illegal immigrants, and reform the national health insurance scheme. He also pledged to establish means for tourism businesses to make payments through a government system. He further said he would implement a salary structure for stay-at-home parents.
