Leader of Jumhooree Party (JP) Qasim Ibrahim has submitted his candidacy form to contest the presidential election.
JP Leader Qasim was accompanied by senior party members and supporters when he arrived at the election headquarters to hand over his candidacy form. Qasim's running mate Dr. Ameen Ibrahim and his wife, Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula, were also present. He has handed over his candidacy form to the President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Fuad Thaufeeq.
Moreover, JP has decided to lead its own coalition in the presidential election instead of remaining in the ruling government coalition. As such, JP held a meeting with the Maldives National Party (MNP) and The Democrats to discuss backing a single candidate but ultimately decided to field its own candidate.
