MNP President Nazim submits candidacy form

President of the Maldives National Party (MNP) Mohamed Nazim has submitted his candidacy form to contest in the presidential election.

MNP President Nazim handed over his candidacy form to the President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Fuad Thaufeeq. MNP awarded its presidential ticket to Mohamed Nazim in May after he won the primary election uncontested. In addition, Nazim has appointed Dr. Ahmed Adeel Naseer as his running mate and former Deputy Attorney General Ahmed Usham as his Election Agent.

Meanwhile, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih also entered his candidacy. Moreoever, the Supreme Court upheld the decision of ECM to reject former President Abdulla Yameen's candidacy, as he is serving an 11-year prison sentence.

The presidential election is scheduled to be held on September 9 and a possible second round will be held on September 30. The eligible voting population for the presidential election is 282,672 voters.
