Applicants for judge's positions required to take exam

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to require individuals who apply for positions as judges to take an examination.

JSC formulated the rule requiring candidates to complete an examination to ensure that judges appointed to the courts are competent. As such, candidates will have to complete the examination from the first day of next year. The examination will also determine the extent of knowledge of laws, regulations, and court decisions.

The Judges' Act states that the JSC has the authority to appoint a judge after interviewing an applicant who has the required educational credentials. However, with the change, the applicants for the post of judge who have obtained educational certificates will only be eligible for the post after passing the examination.
