ECM conducts training session to review complaints

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has conducted a training session on how officials should review the complaints submitted regarding the upcoming presidential election.

The training session was attended by officials from ECM and five other institutions. They include the Prosecutor General's Office (PGO), the Maldives Police Service (MPS), Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the Maldives Media Council (MMC), and the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (MBC).

The purpose of the training session was to provide guidance and hold discussions on how to review the complaints submitted to the various institutions and how to submit the complaints to ECM. The training session was also aimed at making the presidential election a transparent process.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Director of ECM Huzaima Thaufeeq said the institutions will continue to exchange information after the one-day session. She said that the session provided information on the procedures to be followed by various institutions in handling and accepting any complaint regarding the election. She noted that if there is a complaint regarding the election, the regulations require an answer to be given within two days. In addition, the Elections General Act requires that such issues be resolved within five days.

ECM has also conducted a special programme to train officials for the upcoming presidential election. During the programme, trainees were provided information on their roles and responsibilities in the election.
