Gov’t completes construction of row houses in Thimarafushi

The construction of 100 row houses in Thimarafushi, Thaa Atoll, has been completed.

Speaking to PSM News, President of Thimarafushi Island Council Ismail Ibrahim said that the construction and utility installation are finished. He said that the row houses were built away from residential areas and sewerage connections are currently being set up. He also said that over 300 applicants have applied for the houses and the list of recipients is being prepared for announcement.

The government contracted SJ Construction Private Limited to construct 100 row houses in Thimarafushi in 2020. Under the agreement, the company built the houses, each spanning 1,000sqft and consisting of three rooms, three toilets, a sitting room, and a laundry area. The value of the project is USD5.1 million.

Thimarafushi has a population of over 2,500 and the construction of row houses aims to alleviate the housing issues faced by the residents. It is the second atoll housing project to be completed by the government.
