Over 200 cases of violence against children reported in June

Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services has revealed that more than 200 cases of violence against children were reported in June 2023.

As per the statistics released by the gender ministry, a total of 228 cases were reported and addressed in June. The statistics revealed that June had the highest number of reported child abuse cases received by the ministry, with a total of 104 such cases submitted. Among these cases, negligence was the most frequently reported form of child abuse.

Additionally, the ministry received 25 cases of sexual abuse, 18 cases of physical abuse, 12 cases of witnessing domestic violence, seven cases of emotional abuse, five cases of bullying and harassment, and two cases of exploitation. The ministry also received a single case of blackmail.

The ministry additionally received 38 cases of gender-based violence and domestic violence in June. These included 19 cases of physical abuse, 15 cases of emotional abuse and three cases of intimidation. In addition, 39 cases of family issues were also reported in June. They include 19 cases related to custody or access, 12 cases related to parenting issues and eight cases related to child maintenance.

The ministry furthermore received 17 cases related to self-harm and suicidal behaviour and 19 cases involving care and support for elderly and persons with disabilities were reported in June. In addition, 180 cases involving children taken into state care were reported.
