Tourist arrivals increase by 13% as of July

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that tourist arrivals have increased by 13% as of July.

The latest statistics from the tourism ministry show that 1.05 million tourists visited the Maldives this year, as of July 26. The figure is a 13.4% increase compared to the 926,275 tourist visits in the same period last year.

Additionally, the number of tourists that visited the Maldives this month was 121,054 as of July 26. This is a 7.1% increase compared to 120,363 tourists in June. Tourists currently stay in the Maldives for an average of 7.7 days, which is also an increase compared to last month's average of 7.2 days.

Furthermore, Russia, India, and the UK are currently the three markets for the tourism industry. However, the number of Chinese tourists have been increasing, and China, which was ranked 27th last year, is expected to secure third position in the top market list in early August.

The statistics show that the largest number of tourists visited from Russia with 123,731 arrivals while 121,046 tourists visited from India and 88,204 visited from the UK and 87,662 tourists visited from China. In addition, a total of 1,259 tourist establishments are open in the Maldives, consisting of 62,426 beds. They include resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.

The government aims to welcome 1.8 million tourists in 2023 and break last year’s record of 1.6 million tourists.
