State Trading Organisation (STO) has assured availability of medicines in the Maldives, countering false claims of medicine shortages amid the disease spread.
STO noted an upsurge in medicine demand due to the disease outbreak in the Greater Male' Region. STO stated it will provide necessary medicines during seasonal disease outbreaks by importing medicine in collaboration with health service providers and government institutions. STO also stated that the current outbreak of Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) has led to a surge in the demand for commonly prescribed medicines used to treat such diseases.
The Ministry of Health has refuted rumors of medicine shortages for the disease, asserting that there is an adequate stock of medications, including Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORS) and medicines for vomiting and diarrhea. However, the ministry stated that there has been a sudden increase in the number of patients seeking medical attention for vomiting and diarrhea.
