Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment has withdrawn its notice to dissolve around 2,000 registered associations in the Maldives.
The youth ministry, which oversees registered associations, stated that it has cancelled the notice due to administrative issues. The ministry previously announced that 1,989 associations would be dissolved for not being active, not submitting annual reports for two consecutive years and not registering the steering committee. If a member or a third party wishes to prevent the dissolution of an association, it is open to submit a written application to the registrar of associations.
The notice was withdrawn after complaints regarding the list came to the attention of Minister Ahmed Mahloof. He said he learned about the list from the media and had received complaints from various individuals. He noted that the list included some national sports associations and sports clubs that are not under the register of associations, adding that the list also included active associations. As such, he said he has notified the relevant authorities to look into the matter and take necessary steps to address the issues in the list.
