Vice President joins groundbreaking for Islamic Centre on Hithadhoo

Vice President Faisal Naseem has attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Islamic Centre on Hithadhoo, Addu City. He was accompanied by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir and Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar.

During the ceremony, Vice President Naseem emphasised the administration’s commitment to addressing religious issues, especially among young people. He said that in recent years, the administration has implemented numerous religious awareness programmes, with a particular focus on atolls. These programmes include Quran recitation competitions, Ihya forums, religious counselling, and imam training, all of which have been conducted at an unprecedented level.

Also during the ceremony, Islamic Minister Zahir highlighted that the administration prioritises beginning fieldwork soon after holding groundbreaking ceremonies for various projects. As such, he assured that the Islamic Centre will be quickly built to accommodate prayers and religious programmes. He added that the project is a sign of the great importance the administration places on religious matters.

The project to develop the Islamic Centre has been contracted to FEDO Private Limited. The Islamic Centre features a prayer hall with a capacity of 1,500 people, a multipurpose hall that can accommodate 450 people, four classrooms, two seminar rooms, an administrative office, and a library.
