Gov't highlights importance of preserving local culture

Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has emphasised the profound importance of preserving the history and culture of the Maldives for the next generation. She made the remarks after attending the solo art exhibition featuring paintings by the renowned Maldivian artist Abdulla Faiz.

Speaking to PSM News, Minister Mariya emphasised the special priority the administration places in preserving Maldivian history and culture. She highlighted the value of preserving it for the next generation and acknowledged the significance of preserving history and culture worldwide.

Additionally, Minister Mariya stressed the importance of supporting artists as professionals, providing them with adequate income and recognition. She also underlined the importance of showcasing the beauty and history of the Maldives to visitors and offering opportunities for local artists to present their work.

Meanwhile, Abdulla Faiz shared his passion for drawing and his interest in history and archaeological sites. He said he initially kept his drawings hidden but eventually decided to hold an exhibition and sell his artwork. He highlighted the availability of resources, especially through the internet, for children interested in drawing. He believes that the exhibition will captivate art enthusiasts, particularly school children and those eager to learn the art of drawing.

The exhibition showcases numerous paintings portraying the rich history and vibrant culture of the Maldives. It commenced on July 18 and will continue until July 28. Displaying between 80-100 artworks, the exhibition maintains the same high standard seen in art galleries and exhibitions worldwide. The exhibition will be open to the public from 1000-2200hrs every day and from 1600-2300hrs on Fridays.
