Torrential rain floods Male' City

The Maldives Meteorological Service (Met Office) has issued a report on the severe flooding caused by torrential rain in several areas of Male' City.

According to the Met Office, the heavy rainfall has resulted in severe flooding, affecting many roads in the four districts of the city. The floodwater has impeded both pedestrians and motorists, causing disruptions and difficulties in movement. In response to the situation, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Fire and Rescue Service has deployed firefighters to pump out the floodwater and assist in managing the situation.

The bad weather is not limited to Male' City, as the entire nation is experiencing adverse conditions. The central atolls have been particularly affected by the heaviest rainfall. On July 21, between 0800-1100hrs, the Met Office recorded the highest amount of rainfall in Hulhule'. Moreover, the Met Office warns of continuing torrential rain and thunderstorms with wind gusts of up to 40mph. In light of these conditions, the Met Office has advised the public to exercise caution and stay vigilant.

As the situation develops, authorities and relevant agencies are working to manage the flooding and ensure the safety of the public. Residents and visitors are urged to stay informed about weather updates and follow any guidelines issued by the authorities to navigate through the challenging weather conditions.
