Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali has stated that the administration has completed the construction of 12 mosques with 19 more underway. He made these remarks while speaking at a special ceremony held to inaugurate the construction of a new mosque in Meedhoo, Addu City.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Zahir highlighted the administration's commitment to implementing significant structural developmental projects since taking office. He said the ongoing construction of mosques stands as a testament to these efforts and that 12 mosques have been completed so far, with 19 more mosques under construction.
Additionally, Minister Zahir said that further changes will be made to the design of the mosque in Meedhoo. He also said that the Islamic ministry has requested that the work be completed within the stipulated time frame as per the agreement.
The government awarded the contract to Noorahdheen Investment for the construction of the mosque in Meedhoo. The project is being funded under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) and is worth USD904,535. The mosque, which will be open to both men and women, is to be completed within 365 days.
