The Democrats urges opposition to stop targeting specific countries

The Democrats has called on the main opposition Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) to refrain from protesting against specific countries.

Speaking at a press conference, Founder Hassan Latheef emphasised that The Democrats does not intend to engage in political activities targeting any particular country. He, however, pointed out that the PPM has been known to adopt such approaches and urged the opposition to stop their India Out activities.

Additionally, Hassan Latheef said The Democrats will not support any movement that seeks to disrupt the relationship between the Maldives and other countries. He elaborated that The Democrats is willing to work with any party that is not engaged in activities that may strain diplomatic ties.

The government of the Maldives has recently urged the opposition to refrain from committing any act that may undermine the country’s relations with its neighbours and the international community. In a press release, the government strongly denounced the attempts by the opposition to spread false information using the India Out slogan. It stated that such dishonorable acts by the opposition regarding one of the country’s key bilateral partners and its leadership provokes hatred and promote hostility with the objective of tarnishing the country’s longstanding cordial ties with India.

Additionally, the government highlighted that India has always been the closest ally and trusted neighbour of the Maldives, extending consistent support to the people of Maldives. It stated that the longstanding ties between both countries has been elevated to new heights during the past five years, with the strong commitment of the leadership of both countries. As such, it urged all parties to act responsibly and refrain from such disrespectful acts and spreading false information that undermines the country’s relations with its neighbours and the international community.
