Seafarers set an example in protecting the environment: Gov't

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has stated that the commitment of seafarers toward environmental stewardship should serve as an inspiration to everyone.

In a statement publicised on the occasion of the International Day of the Seafarer, the ministry stated that it values and supports the noble efforts of seafarers. The ministry said it aims to ensure well-being, better working conditions, and access to necessary resources for seafarers by upholding the regulations and guidelines set by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). The ministry also said it aims to maintain collaboration with other government agencies, industry stakeholders, and maritime associations to foster an environment and professional growth and safety of seafarers.

Furthermore, the transport ministry noted the determination and innovation of seafarers in promoting cleaner and sustainable practices within the maritime industry. The seafaring community deserves commendation for its initiative role in developing a carbon-free maritime industry and their commitment toward environmental stewardship should serve as an inspiration to everyone. In addition, the shipping industry is one of the significant contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, and seafarers have taken up the challenge with great enthusiasm, according to the statement.

The ministry reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to seafarers and pledged to make efforts to create a brighter and more sustainable future. The ministry also stated that a sustainable maritime industry can only be built by working together to facilitate economic prosperity and protect the precious seas for future generations.
