Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated that the invaluable contributions of women to the field of diplomacy should be celebrated and honoured.
In a statement on International Day of Women in Diplomacy, Minister Shahid gave his heartfelt greetings to all women in diplomacy at home and abroad. He noted that the Maldives last year led efforts to pass the resolution commemorating the day, with a record number of co-sponsors. He also said that he is privileged to work with incredible, determined, and established women diplomats every day and called on everyone to celebrate and honour their invaluable contributions to the field of diplomacy.
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy is celebrated annually on June 24. It was established by the United Nations (UN) on 20 June 2022 to reaffirm that women's participation, on an equal footing with men and at all levels of decision-making, is essential to achieving sustainable development, peace and democracy.
