President of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Mohamed Nasheed has left the main ruling party.
Nasheed's resignation coincides with internal political conflicts within the MDP leadership. In a letter to the Chairperson of MDP, Nasheed cited the current political climate in the country as the reason for his decision to leave the party.
Nasheed played a crucial role in the formation of MDP and served as its Chairperson. He was also elected as the President in 2008 under the MDP ticket.
