Maldives commends UNGA on 77th session inititatives

The Maldives has commended the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the initiatives undertaken during the 77th session, including highlighting the role of science in addressing crises such as climate change. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during a meeting with the President of the 77th Session of UNGA Csaba Kőrösi in New York, United States (US).

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Shahid shared his experiences from the Presidency of the 76th Session of the UNGA. He also thanked Kőrösi for continuing the President of the General Assembly Fellowship, which was established during Minister Shahid’s Presidency of the 76th session. The fellowship is aimed at young diplomats from underrepresented countries, including Least developed countries (LDCs), Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs).

Meanwhile, Kőrösi also commended Minister Shahid on the work undertaken during his time as the UNGA President such as the resolution to commemorate the International Day of Women in Diplomacy and the establishment of the President of UNGA Fellowship President. He also acknowledged the proactive engagement of the Maldives at the United Nations.
