Maldives to present statement from SIDS in UNHRC session

The government has revealed that the Maldives will deliver national statements on various agenda items, aligning with its crucial policies and priorities, at the 53rd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the government said it will present a joint statement on behalf of a group of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) based in Geneva for the Annual Panel on Adverse Impacts of Climate Change. Furthermore, the Maldives, in collaboration with a cross-regional core group, will propose a resolution to extend the mandate of the Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers.

Leading the Maldives delegation for the 53rd Session of the UNHRC is Dr. Asim Ahmed, the Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the UN Offices in Geneva. The delegation also includes Hawla Ahmed Didi, the Deputy Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Offices in Geneva.
