National cleanup campaign held to mark World Oceans Day

A national cleanup campaign has been held to mark World Oceans Day.

The cleanup campaign is organised by the Ministry of Education, the Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI), and Parley Maldives. During the event, participants conducted coastal cleanup activities in 300 islands including resorts with the aim of helping advance the fight against pollution by raising awareness, collecting data, and educating communities.

Vice President Faisal Naseem inaugurated the cleanup campaign in the Greater Male’ Region and joined activities while Television Maldives (TVM) provided coverage and information to viewers. The event also included taking the Ocean Pledge to commit to taking personal responsibility in protecting the environment and the Ocean Lesson event to share information about the ocean cleanup activity.

Parley Maldives has achieved its goal of 10,000 Ocean Pledges. Individuals signed by pledging to to avoid plastics wherever possible, to intercept plastics from going to the oceans, to redesign their mindset and actions away from plastics, and to always advocate these actions.
