Vice President Faisal Naseem has stated that environmental protection is a national effort that needs the participation of the entire community. He made the remark at the Maldives for the Oceans event after taking the Ocean Pledge to practice mindful awareness of behaviours that negatively impact the ocean.
Speaking at the event, Vice President Naseem said that low lying island nations such as the Maldives are the most vulnerable to climate change and needs to be the most mindful of addressing environmental changes. He also said that action needs to be taken to preserve the natural beauty of the Maldives.
Additionally, Vice President Naseem said that more attention should be given to the environment as the pace of global development accelerates. As such, he said that environmental protection is a national issue that needs every individual to take personal responsibility in changing their habits and behaviour.
Furthermore, Vice President Naseem highlighted that environmental conservation and protection is a priority for the administration and that important policies are being formulated and implemented to reduce plastic. He also commended the important role played by civil society organisations in this regard. He further said that the damage to the environment is related to human actions and urged everyone to work together and take environmental protection efforts seriously.
