The Maldives and Bhutan have held discussions aimed at further enhancing the already cordial partnership between the two nations. These talks took place following the presentation of credentials by the new Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Bhutan, Ibrahim Shaheeb, to King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan.
During the ceremony, King Khesar congratulated Ambassador Shaheeb and expressed his confidence in the ambassador's ability to reinforce the close ties between the Maldives and Bhutan. In turn, Ambassador Shaheeb extended warm greetings and good wishes from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on behalf of the Maldivian government and its people. As the newly accredited Ambassador, Shaheeb emphasized his commitment to working closely with the Bhutanese government to further strengthen the relations between the two countries during his tenure.
Ambassador Shaheeb expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the mutual benefit of both nations and assured his commitment to working closely in order to elevate the existing cordial partnership even further. Following the ceremony, Ambassador Shaheeb is scheduled to pay a courtesy call to Prime Minister Dr. Lotay Tshering and Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan Dr. Tandi Dorji. He will also hold meetings with senior government officials in Bhutan to discuss areas of cooperation and collaboration.
