Construction of power plant, office building completed in Henbadhoo

Fenaka Corporation Limited has completed the construction of the new power plant and office building in Henbadhoo, Noonu Atoll.

Speaking to PSM News, Branch Station Manager at Fenaka Mohamed Rameez said that the power plant was previously located in the middle of the island. He also said that there is inadequate electricity service and caused damage to valuable property of the residents due to its location. In addition he said the power plant did not have an office building and the space was limited. He, however, said the newly built power plant will improve the electricity situation and will bring social and economic benefits to the island.

Henbadhoo has a population of 800 residents. The project to relocate the power plant to an isolated area in the island began in October 2020. The electricity capacity will increase from 100KW to 538KW and will solve the issue of power outages in the island with the new power plant. It includes a DEG room, control room, work shop, store, pantry, bathroom, chimney and a day tank. In addition, a 232KW solar power system has been installed in the island and a 192m cable network has been installed to modernise the electricity grid.

Fenaka stated that many power plants have been relocated away from residential areas during the past four years so as to not disrupt the public. The company stated that projects included the relocation of power plants and the construction of office buildings in islands.
