ECM signs agreements with agencies for presidential election

The Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has signed agreements with five government agencies to provide assistance in the upcoming presidential election. The agreements were signed by the President of ECM Fuad Thaufeeq and the heads of the agencies during a special ceremony.

The agencies include the Maldives Police Service (MPS), the Civil Service Commission of the Maldives (CSC), the Local Government Authority (LGA), the Department of National Registration (DNR), and the Maldives Post Limited.

Speaking at the ceremony, Fuad shared the role of five agencies during the presidential election. He said MPS will cooperate in providing security during the election, CSC will provide civil servants for the election, and LGA will provide assistance to the councils. In addition, he said that DNR will assist in the compilation of the voters' list and Maldives Post will be in charge of delivering voting boxes and booths for the election.

ECM stated that the eligible voting population for the presidential election is 282,672 voters. ECM will also place over 600 ballot boxes for the presidential election, which is the largest number of boxes to be placed in any election in the Maldives. It is an increase of 128 boxes compared to the 472 ballot boxes placed during the presidential election held in 2018.
