National flag to be flown at half-mast following death of Abdulla Jameel

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared that the national flag would be flown at half-mast for three days in mourning for the late former cabinet minister Abdulla Jameel. He passed away on June 11 at the age of 87.

The late Abdulla Jameel commenced his extensive career in government services on May 6, 1953. His remarkable dedication to public service spanned 54 years beginning as an observer at the Ministry of Communications. He served as minister at six ministries, including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture, Ministry of Atoll Administration, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Home Affairs and Housing. He has also served as a Minister in the President's Office. In addition, he also had a distinguished career in Parliament, serving for over 30 years.

Abdulla Jameel was recognised for his public service and conferred the Public Service Award in 1990. He was also conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin (O.D.R.I.) on November 10, 2008.
