Higher Education Minister visits Dhidhdhoo Junior College site

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has visited the Dhidhdhoo Junior College construction site.

During his visit to Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll, Minister Hassan toured the junior college site and inquired about the progress of the project. He also held a meeting with Dhidhdhoo Island Council and provided the latest information on the project and gained feedback from the relevant authorities about the programmes to be conducted by the college.

Construction of the Dhidhdhoo Junior College building has been completed and it is scheduled to open in August. Workers are currently completing the interior work while the higher education ministry recruits the staff and procures the equipment and resources for the college.

In May 2022, the higher education ministry contracted Wee Hour Investment Private Limited to develop the junior college in Dhidhdhoo. The contractor was given a 30,000sqft project site located at the reclaimed area of the island for the project.
A junior college is being developed in Dhidhdhoo as part of the Strategic Action Plan (SAP) of the government to develop higher education and training institutes in different parts of the country. The junior college in Dhidhdhoo is to be dedicated for food processing and technology courses. The college will also conduct vocational courses in other sectors.

The junior college in Dhidhdhoo is a two-storey building on a 30,000sqft land plot. The college will include an accommodation block, laboratory facilities, and a multipurpose workshop, in addition to classrooms, study rooms, an auditorium, a library, and a student services section. The college will also be equipped with an activity centre and a gymnasium.

The junior college project is conducted under the new educational model introduced by the higher education ministry. Colleges developed under the new model will focus on foundation courses for students aged between 16 and 21, who have completed their ordinary-level examinations. The courses conducted by junior colleges would have a duration of two years.
