JSC expresses concern over delays in concluding court cases

President of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) Hisaan Hussain has expressed concerns over court cases not being concluded at a desirable speed. She made the remark at the ceremony held to appoint judges to various courts.

At the ceremony, Hisaan noted the improvements made to the work, salary, and promotion of judges in the past few years. She said that judges now receive a higher salary, foreign assistance, and training and have access to modern resources and facilities. She, however, said it was worrying that courts are not producing better results and the pace of their work remains unchanged.

Moreover, Hisaan highlighted a concerning trend where 55% of the cases filed at the JSC revolve around the issue of delayed court proceedings. She said that despite repeated pleas to expedite cases, the courts have not demonstrated significant improvements in their efficiency. She also identified the lack of adequate human resources as a contributing factor but emphasised that delaying work until courts obtain necessary resources acts as a major impediment to the delivery of justice. She advised the newly appointed judges to prioritise concluding cases as fast as they can.
