Gov't to share letter to Mauritius with National Security Committee

Parliamentarian Ali Azim has revealed the letter sent by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Mauritius would be shared with the Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services. He made the statement after visiting the President's Office with other opposition parliamentarians from The Democrats, the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), the People's National Congress (PNC), and the Maldives National Party (MNP).

After leaving the President's Office, Parliamentarian Ali Azim spoke to the media, stating that the opposition had expressed concerns about the issue for the past eight months. He further mentioned that the Chief of Staff of the President's Office Ali Zahir informed him that the letter could be shared with the committee.

Meanwhile, The Parliamentary Committee on National Security Services has stated that it will begin the process of obtaining the letter sent to Mauritius once the committees are formed again. At a press conference, the Chair of the committee Mohamed Aslam expressed concern over the halt of the committee works and said that the process of obtaining the letter can only begin after the committees are formed. He assured that he intends to request the President's Office to hand over the letter at the first committee meeting.

The opposition has leveled serious allegations against President Solih regarding the letter to Mauritius, which has led to the initiation of a no-confidence motion against Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath concerning the Maldives-Mauritius maritime boundary issue. However, disruptions occurred during the voting process in parliament due to a violation of a point of order.
