Maldives and Sri Lanka sign three bilateral agreements

The Maldives and Sri Lanka have signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) as part of the Fourth Session of the Maldives–Sri Lanka Joint Commission held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka Ali Sabry.

The agreements that were signed include the MoU on the Establishment of the Maldives Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka. The agreement was signed by the High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Ali Faiz and Somarathne Vidanapathirana, the Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, the MoU on the Field of Health Cooperation was signed by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Health Shamau Shareef and Dr. A.K. Sunil Bernard De Alwis, the Additional Secretary (Medical Services) to the Ministry of Health of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the MoU on Cultural Cooperation was signed by Minister of State for Arts, Culture and Heritage Mohamed Thoriq and Somarathne Vidanapathirana, the Secretary to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka.

The agreements aim to foster greater bilateral relations and cooperation between the Maldives and Sri Lanka in the field of cultural and health cooperation and people-to-people relations.
