New mosque to be built in Meedhoo

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has contracted Noorahdheen Investment for the construction of a mosque to accommodate 700 worshippers in Meedhoo, Addu City. The agreement was signed by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir Ali and Manager at Noorahdheen Investment Abdulla Salih at a ceremony held at the Islamic Centre. The ceremony was also attended by Parliamentarian Rozaina Adam.

Speaking after the signing ceremony, Minister Zahir said that the Islamic ministry requested that the work be completed within the stipulated time frame as per the agreement.

Meanwhile, Rozaina said that is the first time the government is building a mosque in Meedhoo. She also requested the government to expedite the construction of the mosque for the residents of the island.

The project is being funded by the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) and is worth USD904,535. The mosque, which will be open to both men and women, is to be completed within 365 days.
