Maldives and Sri Lanka to convene Fourth Session of the Joint Commission

The fourth Session of the Maldives-Sri Lanka Joint Commission is scheduled to take place in Colombo from June 6-7. The session will be co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka M.U.M. Ali Sabry.

Established in 1984 under the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, the Maldives-Sri Lanka Joint Commission serves as a platform for the two governments to review, discuss, and establish cooperation frameworks on various areas and issues of mutual importance in bilateral and multilateral spheres.

The Senior Officials Meeting will cover a range of topics including trade and investment, tourism, culture, education, health, fisheries, defense, legal and law enforcement, youth, as well as regional and international cooperation. Additionally, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are scheduled to be signed between the two countries on the sidelines of the Joint Commission.

The third Session of the Joint Commission was hosted by the Maldives in Male' in 2017.
