Gov’t inaugurates projects to develop Addu tourism zones

The government has launched projects to develop tourism zones in Addu City.

Five areas of Addu have been designated for the development of tourism zones under grant assistance from the government of India. Under the initiative, the projects to develop the tourism zones in Hithadhoo and Feydhoo have been inaugurated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Kahleel, Minister of State for External Affairs of India V. Muraleedharan and Mayor of Addu City Ali Nizar.

At the ceremony, Deputy Mayor Mohamed Shuau said the purpose of the initiative is to identify and develop areas in Addu to attract investors. He also revealed that all land plots in the tourism zones have been awarded to contractors and that services from guesthouses, restaurants, and spas will be available in every zone.

Additionally, Deputy Mayor Shuau said no other government has been able to address public concerns over the lack of tourism development in Addu. He praised the current administration for its efforts in developing the city and attracting investors and highlighted the importance of synchronising all development projects.

Furthermore, Deputy Mayor Shuau said the concept designs of the tourism zones have been approved and that construction of guesthouses has already begun in some areas. He said that the government and the local council are working together with the plot recipients to begin services next year.
