Ministry of Tourism has revealed that 120,960 tourists visited the Maldives in May.
The statistics show that 4,568 fewer tourists arrived in May compared to the 125,528 arrivals recorded in the same month in 2022. However, the figure is higher than the 64,613 arrivals recorded in 2019, prior to the pandemic.
The statistics also showed that 809,245 tourists arrived in the Maldives so far this year, which is an increase compared to the 702,332 arrivals records during the same period last year. The reason for the decrease in tourist arrivals in May is the decline in flights from India, which is the second top source market to the Maldives.
The government achieved its target of 1.6 million tourist visits in 2022 and aims to achieve 1.9 million tourist visits this year. A total of 1,241 tourist establishments with 60,734 beds are currently in operation in the Maldives.
